WWII Poster
The poster I picked was from the It's a Woman's War Too!. I chose the We Can Do It! poster. I chose this poster because "Rosie" stood out, the font was large enough to get your attention, it doesn't have a lot of colors just 2, but they were bright colors. It was plain but catchy, in its own way. Seeing it gives me the feeling the author wanted women and men to know that women could step into a man's world and help when they were need. Women during this time were used to being the homemakers not out in the world.

Oh my. I just realized I have yet to comment on your post. Sorry it took me so long! the "We can do it" logo is a really strong female logo. It has been picked up by many of the feminist movements, and actually was the start of female empowerment, as you pointed out. The simplicity of the design was great, I agree there. Many of the posters from the United Stated and the UK in WWII were effective because of that fact. Ever hear "Loose lips sink ships"? That was a really famous one as well. I know people who apply that in a buisness setting today. The social climate you mentioned was another thing that was interesting about WWII, since women were a strong part of the labor force suring the war. I think that it is important to remember that both sides were working towards a cause, both the homefront and the boys at war.
ReplyDeleteI think the colors are interesting not only because they are bright but also that they are largely red and blue - patriotic, American color.
